The concept design of the contemporary house being built beside the Old Park lake was undertaken by Mike Rainey of architects Rainey, Petrie, Johns Ltd. The quality of his oriental-influenced design with its ‘boat house’ look has been acclaimed by local planners as ‘well-considered, cohesive and carefully executed’ and as ‘making maximum use of the setting, looking down the existing lake’. The detailed drawings for the build are the work of Simon Clark of leading eco-architects, Constructive Individuals. Simon's influence gives the house its ‘green’ credentials and environmentally friendly agenda.

The new build seeks to achieve high quality on a low budget. It will:
• employ renewable natural resources
• have minimal environmental impact
• maximise energy conservation
• use organic products where possible
• use vernacular materials to blend with original Old Park construction
• have breathing walls and roof construction
• be integrated into its landscape through careful colour and design
